8 Tips on Buying Boots for Slim Legs
Petite women with wider legs usually believe that taller women are luckier, but skinny legs can pose a great deal of challenges when boot shopping. The most common one being the size dilemma, as finding boots that are snug around the calf area is tough. Most riding boots are designed to give a streamline fit to the legs, and thus tend to look a bit baggy at the calves. Finding narrow-calf boots that fit well and yet provide comfort for prolonged wear is not easy.
So, if you are having a hard time choosing narrow-calf boots, consider reading the following tips as they will help you find boots with the correct calf width.
#1 Know Your Size: The very first step to buying boots that flatter your slim legs is knowing your size. You can do so by measuring the widest part of your calf using a soft and flexible measuring tape. Make sure to measure in both centimeters and inches. This is because, European sizes are labeled in centimeters, while US sizes are labeled in inches. Shopping becomes easier when you armed with your measurement. If you are thinking of shopping online, just type “boots with 13 inch” circumference” on the search bar. This size usually works well for slim legs.
#2 Look for Boots With Adjustable Features: If you are fed up of having to make do with boots that look a tad bit baggy, then it’s time you shop for boot styles with adjustable buckles, buttons or ties at the calf. Adjustable features like these enable you to customize the circumference of the calf and manipulate the calf width based on your size. This not only offers a better fit but also does justice to your slender calves. Another great choice is the button style boot, or the lace-up type. These two types are adjustable and look more snug on the legs, rather than the typical baggy appearance of ordinary boots.
#3 Choose Mid-Heel Boots: While most petites believe that taller women have an advantage with their height, that’s not the complete truth, especially for ladies who are tall with too slim legs. For such women, it’s always advisable to wear mid-heels or kitten-heels, otherwise they look rather towering and awkward. A mid-heel boot or a kitten heel boot shifts the focus to the feet in a gentle way and gives a proportionate look to the entire body. On the other hand, higher heels only make slender legs look even slimmer and longer. Hence, if you are worried about looking too slim with your boots, go for the mid-heel ones.
#4 Ensure The Shaft Isn’t Too High: This tip is important, especially for petite women. When choosing tall riding boots, you should ensure that the shaft isn’t too high, but just about feels right while walking around. Basically, a boot may fit the calf but still gape if its length is too long in comparison to your leg. If you find this happening with you very often, then it’s advisable to shop for boots with a short shaft height. You will find a couple of styles featured on online stores.
#5 Consider Buying Stretchable Boots: Stretchable boots make excellent options for women with small or narrow calves. Basically, they are designed in a way to stretch out once the leg goes in. That is why they are narrower by default, as compared to the ordinary boot that comes in a “one size, fits all”. Stretchable boots are also very comfy to parade around, and can be teamed up with skinny jeans or stockings, despite their narrow circumference. The major challenge with buying stretchy boots lies in choosing the correct size. It is advisable to buy one size smaller, especially if you are making the purchase from online retail stores.
#6 Go for Over-The-Knee/Mid-Calf Boots: One intelligent way to mask your extra slim calves with boots that fit and yet look stylish is by choosing over-the-knee riding boots or mid-calf boots. They are not only trendy this season but also work really well on all kinds of attire, right from formals to dresses. Basically, the reason why they are the perfect choice for women with skinny calves is because they end at the wider part of your leg, thereby giving them a more voluptuous look. Then again, choosing one of these boots is no walk in the park, as they can be really confusing in terms of size.
#7 Include Booties in Your Wardrobe: Have you ever thought of re-purposing your extra baggy boots with a pair of matching booties? Booties may be of quilt, hardware or chunky heel, but they all serve the same purpose: enhance the level of comfort and fit. Booties are an essential staple when winter comes calling, and they do a lot to hug skinny calves well in order to lend a greater fit. You can pair them up with cords or skinny jeans. However, just make sure not to team this look with a short skirt though, as this might look odd on your slender legs and even make them appear disproportionate to your body.
#8 Fill Out That Extra Room With Leg Warmers: Now this tip is for the impulsive buyer, that fell head over heels with an eye-catchy pair of wide boots, and ended up buying them without taking note of the size. Leg warmers come in a variety of cute and attractive options. They help add some dimension to balance your slender legs. You can also opt for boot tights or thick, knee-high socks. So, if you fall in love with boots made for wider calves, don’t hesitate before buying them as you can always rely on a matching pair of leg warmers to lend the perfect fit you always desired.
With these tips under your belt, you will find it a breeze to buy a pair of stylish boots that fit well and do justice to your perfectly toned, slender legs. And in case, you do end up choosing a style that is a tad bit wide, you can always tailor them to narrow their circumference. As a word of advice, browse expensive brands for a more customized fit, as they ensure high-quality craftsmanship, in addition to durability and style.
I have slim calves but a wide foot! Help!
Yes, me too – narrow calves, wide foot, especially int the toe box area (my heel ankles are actqally quite narrow. There is literally NOTING out there that accomodagtes that. This reply is a year later, but still – please help!
It would be really cool if you could update with a few options for us skinny-calved vegans.
Do your gorgeous boots ever go on sale.
Why do all “slim/narrow” calf boots have to be so BORING? Does anyone make a boot (below knee) that has some style. They are flats, 1” heal or slender 3-4” inch heals. How about a sharp looking stacked 2.5-3” heal or a broader heal. Nothing like a “spike”. Maybe some embellished buckles, fringe-mix of patterning leathers; mix of different textures of leather. Something that a 60 year old lady that still likes to dress with style and not fall of the heal! Classy but not conservative; sexy but not whorish!! Stylish, sexy and NOT something your daughter or granddaughter would wear! Plus, not $$$$ of dollars. There are still ladies, meaning ladies, that love to keep some “youth” about us without looking like “we invaded our daughter or granddaughters closet”!! Just a thought and if you have some, please share!! Thanks from Grandma that’s not “dead”!!
I really appreciate this information. It will serve me well. Thank you so much!!!
